Horizon 2020 is the biggest EU Research and Innovation programme ever with nearly €80 billion funding available over 7 years (2014 to 2020) – in addition to the private investment that this money will attract. It promises more breakthroughs, discoveries and world-firsts by taking great ideas from the lab to the market. The highest budgets for Horizon 2020 sub-schemes will be allocated within the last year of scheme operation – 2020.

Part of Horizon 2020 is the newly formed European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator. This is a unique training course, aimed at enabling SMEs to better understand and take advantage of the various European funding opportunities suitable for SMEs. The masterclass is designed to equip participants with the necessary skills and know-how to produce high quality and successful SME Phase 2 proposals with grant-only application option of up to 2.5 million euros and additional blended-finance option of up to 15 million euros equity.

EIC Accelerator is part of Horizon 2020, the world’s largest funding scheme for research and innovation. It will also continue to operate within the new R&D funding framework programme – Horizon Europe (2021 – 2027). Companies are invited to submit innovation proposals to cover 70% of the costs of various pre- commercial innovation and commercial activities:

Phase 2 grant-only facility (up to 2.5M EUR grant): testing, optimization, validation, large-scale demonstration of an innovative product, process or service falling between TRL 6 and TRL 8

Phase 2 blended-financing facility (up to 2.5M EUR grant + up to 15M EUR equity funding) for TRL 6 – TRL 8 projects + TRL 9 and large-scale commercialization
